Baby's first gifts
Baby Grant got Christmas gifts! It was very exciting. Uncle Glenn and Aunt Ricki gave the baby an adorable white teddy bear. Grandma Grant gave both our baby and Barry and Riley's baby some duck slippers, a duck onesie, and the book Fuzzy Duckling! All of these baby clothes are so cute....I think I am going to be broke buying all of these cute clothes. I am 8 weeks and 5 days today. My next doctor's appointment is on the 4th, where we will meet with the doctor before she has her baby at the end of January. I think I am going to soon have to buy some maternity pants, as my work pants are tightening up!!! I think that the baby is going to like spicy food, because I can't get enough of it--I had a buffalo chicken salad for lunch, and I am thinking about a baked potato with salsa for dinner!!!

Ultrasound - *Warning* Explicit photos
This morning Mary and I went for the ultrasound. It was incredible. We started with the ultrasound and saw the nurse practitioner after that. We had a list of questions and they were all well answered. Seeing the baby made it all seem very real and exciting. I think until this morning we were still kind of in disbelief. Not anymore. That butter bean is for real. At this point, the vertebra is developing and everything looks good, which we are so grateful for. Our due date is August 2nd, 2008. As of today, Mary is 7 weeks and 5 days along. She is doing an awesome job, she has kicked caffeine and I'm sure by the end of the weekend she will have read enough to earn a phd in babies. Oh - Sorry Christy - Only one baby in that belly!

Coffee
OK, so now I can't even drink decaf!!!! I love coffee, and had a hard time going from 4-5 cups a day to 2 cups of decaf. Now, I can't even drink that--it turns my stomach!!! I can't believe that my beloved coffee is doing me this way. I hope that after the first trimester I can at least have a cup of decaf now and then...but after trying it yesterday and today, I'm done...poured both out after a couple of sips!!!
On another note, I am loving grape juice! I guess that's my new coffee. Juicy Juice Grape is the best! 100% juice and very grapey!!!
3 more days til the ultrasound.....

Now I'm scared
OK, I had a freaky dream last night and now I am scared. I dreamed that Brad and I had a perfect baby girl. However, when we got her home, she grew ugly, pointy teeth and a ton of hair. When I tried to feed her, she spit it back at me. When I tried to wipe her mouth, she bit me. She could talk, to me only, and was really mean and ugly to me. She was devil child! She was perfect for everyone else, and only was mean to me when no one else could see. Only I could see the ugly teeth and hair...they went away when anyone else was around. PLEASE don't let that happen to me!!!!!

Six Weeks
Well, we're at six weeks! Today I am feeling really wiped out. I came home from work early and pretty much just laid around all afternoon. I was caught up at work, and have a very busy day tomorrow, so I came home and rested. I am not having a lot of pregnancy symptoms other than fatigue at this point. I really hope I don't get a lot of nausea like Riley is having. She is evidently very sick every day. I hate that for her, but pray I don't get that part of it!
We are going to tell Brad's family tomorrow night at his mom's birthday celebration. I think they will be excited. I am still cautious until we see the doctor, but it's less than 2 weeks now until our appointment and ultrasound.
I did another pregnancy test yesterday morning. I know it is silly, but I wanted to be sure. The positive sign showed up immediately, which made me giggly. Every day I get more excited about the baby!!! Until next time......

Caffeine withdraw successful
I did not have any caffeine at all today! I started cutting back on Saturday when we found out, and tried to gradually cut back. I had awful headaches on Sunday and Monday, and was so sleepy, but Tuesday was better (I had one Coke). Today I didn't have any caffeine at all and I feel pretty good.
I still have not completely grasped that I am pregnant. I am having a lot of lower back pain, and I know that is common. After 5 positive pregnancy tests, I guess I really am! It's going to be hard not telling anyone for a while, but I really want to wait until we've gone to the doctor on the 20th--only three more weeks! I actually am looking forward to having the pregnant belly.
We have talked about a couple of names already, but I don't want us to get ahead of ourselves! I'm sure we'll change our minds many times before the big day!
I'm so happy that Brad is excited about this. I wasn't sure how he was going to feel, but it makes me so happy to see him so involved and excited already. He's going to be a great Dad!

Appointment made
Mary called her Dr first thing this morning. Our appointment is set for December 20th. The Dr sets the first appointment at 8 weeks. The good thing is that we will get an ultrasound that day. We're very excited about that. Today is also the 5th anniversary of day Mary and I were engaged. We were on a cruise to the Panama Canal. We were unable to dock at Costa Rica and the pay phones were out in Belize, so we had to wait until we got back to tell anyone. Of the trips we took during our childless years, that was probably our favorite.

Day 0
Today, while working in the garage, Mary came to tell me that she thought she might be pregnant. The line on the EPT was faint, but it was there. At this point, we weren't convinced. 5 tests, later we both now believe that Mary is about 4 weeks pregnant. Mary and I have been trying for almost 2 years, so this was a pretty big surprise to us both. It's hard to explain how you feel when you learn that inside of the woman you love so much is a life that is a part of both of you. The best way that I can describe the emotion is a mixture of intense happiness, excitement, surprise, and love. I can't imagine how much and it what ways this will change our lives but we're ready to find javascript:void(0)out.
Fatique sets in

Today was a pretty slow day around the Grant household. We watched a lot of football and Mary took a couple of naps. The lack of caffeine is really wiping her out. Mary is planning to call her Dr in the morning and schedule her first appointment. We're dying to tell everyone, but that will have to wait another week or so.
Something really cool happened on Thanksgiving day. We learned that my brother Barry, and his wife Riley are also pregnant. Mary's and Riley's due dates will be a couple of weeks apart. How cool is that?
