Heartbeat

I heard the heartbeat today at my doctor's appointment! It's beating in the 150s per minute. It's amazing how you just relax and smile when you hear that. I am 13 weeks and 5 days, and am measuring 15 weeks. Everything is going well. I'll be going back to the doctor on the 20th for an exam before we go on our cruise on the 23rd. In March we get to find out the gender! Then, everyone can stop trying out all of their old wives tales!!! According to the old wives tales so far, it's about 50-50 on the gender, so we will just have to see what the ultrasound says in March!!!

Brad is sick today and didn't get to go with me, but I know he would have liked to hear our baby's heartbeat too. We'll be able to hear it again on the 20th! I think it's finally time for maternity clothes...I've gained 10 lbs. total, which they say is fine right now, but my pants sure are getting tight!!!!!

It's a peach

Well, I am now 13 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and into my 2nd trimester (finally)! According to my Pregnancy Week by Week book, the baby is now the size of a peach! That little thing is getting bigger by the week. By now he or she can suck his/her thumb in the womb...how cute is that? I am feeling pretty good; my only complaint is that I wake up several times a night with sore hips, but as long as I roll over, it's OK for a while.

I go back to the doctor on Friday; I really hope we can hear the heartbeat. I think I am going to have to start wearing maternity clothes this week or next; I only have two pair of work pants that I can still stand!!

I am starting to get really excited. In March, we should be able to find out the gender. After that, we'll pick out stuff for the nursery and start working on it!

I am still having really weird dreams! Last night I dreamed I was a firefighter and I stopped an entire house from burning...only one corner burned after it started much bigger. The night before I dreamed I was on the SCAD swim team and was the star of the team (that is a dream!). In the past week I have dreamed about eating cake icing, being in labor next door to Nicole Kidman, and driving a bus for a living. Who knows where all this comes from???

Baby Moon

I've learned a new term lately. It's called a baby moon. I'm sure it came from the travel industry. It's loosely defined as either a last vacation before expectant parents have their first child or a vacation that new parents take within a couple of months after their first child is born. Alone. I think we'd both feel a lot like Britney Spears if we were to take a vacation after our baby is born. I can't imagine wanting to do that anyway. That being said, we are going to take a week off in February and take our last cruise for a long time, I'm sure. We've been really fortunate that Mary has not had any nausea. I was a little worried about her being on a ship for a week, but she doesn't think it will be an issue. Wish us luck.

Juno. We saw this movie this weekend. It's kind of quirky like Little Miss Sunshine, but a very cute movie. If you get a chance, I highly recommend it.

Dr.s Visit

We had our first visit with the doctor today (we saw the nurse practitioner last time). Everything is still looking good. We had another ultrasound, and this time, the baby's heart is beating 170 times per minute! We could see little arms and legs this time...it's starting to look like a baby! We are very excited and are starting to tell everyone now...it's very exciting!

Sorry, Christy, about forgetting that Aunt Christy gave Baby Grant a book, The Night Before Christmas, on Christmas. She also bought the baby's first frog stuff this past weekend-- a stuffed frog that plays a lullaby and some froggie onesies!

10 week Ultrasound

It's for real....
